Having grown increasingly tired of the limitations encountered by consumer grade routing solutions; I decided to take matters into my own hands as much as possible. In this blog I talk about the build of a solution that goes far beyond what is possible with those consumer based routing solutions and the benefits that I've realized as a result of rolling my own. To do this requires a notable amount of knowledge in hardware and software matters, but the result is well worth the investment of time and energy.

For years of living in this house I've often called upon service repair organizations to fix things that I probably could have solved myself. This project finds me stepping up! I've spotted a problem with a couple of attributes of the gas fireplaces in the home. The pain of having to deal with battery replacement for the remote controls infuriates me. Having decided to solve this with a technical and elegant solution; I'm putting my software development expertise to the task and using the opportunity to enhance my knowledge of hardware systems.
